Caring for Our Maple Forests

When customers buy Coombs Family Farms maple syrup products, they support independent family farmers who, in addition to caring about great tasting maple quality, also care about environmental stewardship and sustainable forestry.

To this day, we still work with many of the same maple trees my great great grandparents once tapped. Some of the trees we care for are now more than 300 years old (one is nearly 20 feet in circumference). As we have grown over the years, we take pride and satisfaction in maintaining our family's connection with these ancient maple trees. The following outlines many of the environmental policies we practice at Coombs Family Farms

A Commitment to Environmental Sustainability
We always use tree-friendly health spouts.
We use energy-saving reverse osmosis evaporators.
We never jeopardize tree health by over-tapping (2 per average sized tree is our maximum).
We use low impact vacuum tubing instead of inefficient buckets.
We maintain and practice a sustainable forest management plan for our farm.
We have organic certification buffer zones in place to protect our trees from potential contaminants.
We always use QAI organic certified cleaning processes.

We never use chemical fertilizers.

We never use pesticides.

We donate a percentage of our profits each year to support various environmental organizations.

We never use artificial ingredients, colors, or dyes in our syrups and sugars.

We buy from other small farmers who practice sustainable forestry and share our commitment to the environment.
